Kicking off an ambitious campaign for a renowned university
In the fall of 2015, Tulane University began preparing its largest and most ambitious fundraising effort to date. For its national campaign, the university planned to visit 10 major cities, each more than once, between 2017 and 2021. The goal? Encourage participation among Tulane graduates and influencers in targeted areas of the country.
University officials needed a partner with the creative, management and event production expertise to produce a national, touring activation that would help Tulane reach its fundraising goals. Organizers were looking for fresh ideas that would introduce interactivity and excite stakeholders. After a national search, they chose Solomon Group.
To kick it off, university leaders asked us to help stage a special event on campus in 2016. The inaugural “Wavemaker Weekend” needed to show Tulane’s most loyal supporters how its capital campaign would both advance the university, and make an impact on the communities it serves.
Solomon Group’s biggest challenge involved figuring out a creative way to present this information to Tulane’s donors and influencers. Our team decided to create a “Wavemaker Showcase” which involved a series of museum-quality exhibits to highlight the success stories, current projects, and future priorities of each college at the university.
Our team transformed an open space in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life into a museum-like environment that included physical exhibits with specialty graphics, interactive projections, a 180-degree immersive theater, and “experts” on hand to provide more details about Tulane’s many initiatives.
We provided full creative services for the Wavemaker Showcase including graphic design, narrative development, copywriting and video content creation. We also delivered custom fabricated elements, graphics production and full event management services.
Additionally, Solomon Group provided production services for other events throughout the three-day weekend, including the university’s presidential inauguration, a special welcome celebration, and a concert featuring Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
Next, Solomon Group and Tulane will work together to develop the custom touring activations that will travel around the country, carrying news of the university’s successes and vision for the future. Solomon Group will be there every step of the way to ensure each engagement is a vibrant experience for fans of The Green Wave.
